It is our aim to equip young people with the skills necessary to take a proactive role in society. Pupils build their knowledge and confidence by creating innovative solutions to identified problems, considering both functional and aesthetic needs. Students will have an appreciation of the social, economic and environmental impact technological developments have on the world so they can become responsible, informed designers and consumers.

Food is a very popular department within our school and all our students thoroughly enjoy being able to develop their cooking skills and knowledge of nutrition, an essential part of everyday life. As a department we are always available to offer help and advice to pupils, who often come along to discuss recipes they have chosen for controlled assessment or products they have made at home. The room is modern, promoting an excellent working environment, which leads to high quality outcomes and positive working relationships. Pupils are encouraged to develop a wide skill base and keep up with current food trends and issues such as the rise of obesity in children, dashboard dining and the luxury meal market.
Food links with many other subjects in the school from the basics such as weighing and measuring linking to maths to the use of language linking to English when the controlled assessment is completed. The new specification has very close links with science as it is very much experiment and investigation based for many aspects of the course.
