The department has conducted a comprehensive review of the language curriculum provision to incorporate any changes that we believe will give our students the best chance to achieve their true potential. Therefore, in Year 7, students have the fantastic opportunity to experience French and Spanish. At the end of year 7, students will choose the one they want to pursue in year 8 and all the way up to GCSE, in Year 11.
As a twenty-first century department, students have access to a wide range of online resources and a multimedia suit; this enables students to learn interactively and to work at a speed relevant to their ability. The teaching of pronunciation and intonation are seen as key to developing students’ speaking skills; this is echoed through comprehensive work on the teaching of grammar. We encourage all students to become involved in cross-curricular activities which enables them to make the progress that they do by recognising how languages link to their everyday lives.
