  • World Book Day

Members of Upton Court Grammar School celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 2 March, engaging in a range of literary related activities. Students dressed up as their favourite literary characters, creating a buzz of excitement around the school as everyone talked about their outfits and why they chose to wear it.

To promote the love of reading, the short story ‘The Destructors’, by Graham Greene, was divided into five sections and ready out by teachers at the start of each teaching period of the day, building up a sense of anticipation throughout the day. Earlier in the week, students engaged in an essay writing competition, sponsored by the school’s alumnus society, The Old Paludians. The essays, written as factual pieces, fiction or poetry, were in response to a series of photographic prompts.

Around £600 was raised, and the money will be used toward the purchase of new books for the school library.

Upton Court Grammar School Principal Mercedes Hernandez Estrada said “Reading and books were the key topic of conversation as students shared their favourite stories and characters making this an extra special day."
