  • UCGS Student awarded a scholarship worth $200,000

Upton Court Grammar School student Katherine Maitland, 18, was awarded a scholarship at Duke University, North Carolina, USA. The scholarship, worth $200,000 over four years is based upon Katherine’s outstanding rowing abilities in which she has previously competed at national level in team GB.

The scholarship award will enable Katherine to pursue her dreams of studying science, and eventually progressing onto Medical School. Duke University is ranked seventh in the USA, and a degree from the university will support an illustrious career in her chosen field.

Katherine is currently studying A Levels in Chemistry, Biology and Geography and expects to achieve A* grades in summer 2014.

Upton Court Grammar School Principal Mercedes Hernandez Estrada said “I never doubted that Katherine's talent would be recognised and rewarded. Her rowing ability together with her academic achievements will make her an asset at Duke University."
