Six Upton Court Grammar School students were selected for the prestigious University of Oxford summer school programme, UNIQ.
The programme is run by the establishment to give 17 year olds a flavour of university life, and an opportunity to engage in activities of interest to their future career.
The six students beat competition from around the world and demonstrated their extraordinary abilities through their GCSE results, letter of application and references. During the week’s residential course, students attend lectures, seminars and activities related to a field of interest delivered by professors and staff at Oxford.
Two students from Upton Court attended the UNIQ programme in the summer of 2013, who later secured conditional offers at the university; the school hopes to make this a regular feature in future years. Principal Mercedes Hernandez Estrada said “The numbers of students gaining places in this programme is on the increase as a reflection of the high academic standards and the strength of their performance during the selection process. This opportunity is totally deserved and all participant will be, without a doubt, a credit to themselves, their families and the school."
