Upton Court Grammar School student and Head Girl Sophie Maitland, 17, was part of an elite group of 16-19 year olds competing in the Netball National Performance League. The League, that consists of only ten teams drawn up from the UK’s finest young players, represent the National Superleague and compete with each other around the country.
Since September 2014, Sophie and her squad have engaged in a number of matches around the country and achieved an overall fifth position, including winning the last four matches and the Plate Tournament competition on Sunday 12 April.
Upton Court Grammar School Principal, Mercedes Hernandez Estrada, said “We are very proud of Sophie who has persevered in pursuing her dream despite numerous challenges and setbacks. Her success is worthy of praise but her determination speaks volumes about her character, which is even more important. She is a remarkable young lady.”
