Upton Court Grammar School hosted a Gifted and Talented students' event for fourteen Slough primary schools on Thursday 16 June. Each school was invited to send four of their more able year 5 students to the school for a day involving a mathematics challenge and performing selected scenes from William Shakespeare's works.
In all, 56 students attended the day and engaged in highly challenging activities with enthusiasm and flair, a testament to the quality of education provided by Slough primary schools and their teachers. The Shakespeare task was particularly challenging, as it took the ten-year-olds out of their comfort zone when they performed in front of their peers and parents for the final showcase.
Medals and certificates of participation were awarded, along with Bafta style trophies to the two winning schools for drama and top three cups for the winning schools in Mathematics.
In Mathematics, the top three schools were Western House Academy (first position), Iqra Primary School (second position) and Ryvers Primary School (third position), and the two drama awards went to The Holy Family Primary School who performed A Midsummers Night Dream, and Khalsa Primary School who performed Julius Caesar.
Upton Court Grammar School Principal Mercedes Hernandez Estrada said “It was a pleasure to see so many of the primary schools represented. Students were challenged and enjoyed the day and their parents were clearly proud to see what they had accomplished. We hope to run more events in the near future.”
