  • Annual Prize Giving Ceremony 2016

Staff and students at Upton Court Grammar School held their annual Prize Giving ceremony on Thursday 14 July. The event celebrated academic achievement of students in years 7-10 who were awarded certificates of commendation for each subject in the school curriculum as well as excellence awards for literacy and for outstanding contribution to the life of the school.

Heads of department were invited to nominate one student per year group who had shown the greatest aptitude for their subject, and had consistently demonstrated excellence throughout the year.

In addition to subject prizes, awards for excellence in literacy were given to Tara Jhawer (year 7), Yosha Pathak (year 8), Onyi Anajuba (year 9), and Prushorth Manivannan (year 10), while first place awards in the Old Paludian’s essay competition went to Arkapriya De (year 7), Miranda Crawford (year 8), Devangi Dave (year 9) and Nudrat Nawar (year 10).

The school also selects two students each year to receive the prestigious Principal’s Excellence Award. This is awarded to students that selflessly contributed to school life, raising money for charity, supporting events to the fullest, as well as being an excellent role model to all. Recipients of this award were Juhi Mistry aged 11, and Sanabil Bader aged 15.

The ceremony was presided by guest speaker, Bal Sanghera, Business Intelligence Product Manager at Sony, who delivered an inspirational speech about his successes and achievements, particularly in making the Sony PlayStation console a global success through the introduction of ‘disruptors’ to the status quo, igniting innovations and progress.

Upton Court Grammar School Principal Mercedes Hernandez Estrada said “Today we paid tribute to those who, since 1912, have contributed to making this school a centre of excellence and celebrated the achievements of the remarkable young people who have the pleasure of having in our school”
